The status of visa when the employment contract ends before visa expiry date

Hi Sir,

I am working in a private company in Sharjah. My contract is a limited contract. My contract will be ended on 22-05-2021 but my visa ends on mid-July 2021 so that my contract end date is 22-05-2021.

If I leave this company with resignation, will I get all benefits (like gratuity & leave salary & air ticket)? And would I face any legal issues? Should I wait for up to July as per the visa date?

Thank you!

Hi Sir,

Thank you for your query!

Upon termination of employment, a residence visa has to be canceled on the last day of work; after all employment benefits have been paid out.

The employee has one month's grace period after visa cancellation to exit the country.

The Immigration Authorities, nevertheless, do allow companies to keep staff on the visa for a longer period but this is subject to limitations.

In other words, this privilege is given provided it is used for only a specific number of employees.

Speak to your employer again in a nice way, explain the difficulties you will have if your visa is canceled immediately.

An extension is done on a trust basis as technically, you will still be their responsibility, albeit not working at their premises.
