How to report a case for a lost cheque and stop its encashment

Please clarify how a lost cheque is to be reported. I need a police report number to give to the bank to stop the cheque.

1) I am the person who wrote the cheque and live in Abu Dhabi.

2) The cheque was given to the other party - a company for cleaning services.

3) The company lost the cheque in Abu Dhabi (they are a Dubai based company)

4) I was told that the company has to go to the police station to get the police report number.

5) The company was told that I have to go to the police station to get the police report number.

Please confirm the correct process.

Dear Questioner,

The correct procedure is that you are the one able to register the police report due to the fact that you are the owner of the cheque book and signatory.

If you would like us to assist you to file police complaint in Dubai, please feel free to provide us with a copy of your passport, visa and EID to our email address.

Thanks.

Please confirm whether the same protocol can be carried out for a lost signed & completed cheque at:

1) https://www.tamm.abudhabi/en/aspects-of-life/HousingProperty/safety/DealingwithEmergencies/RequesttoReportLostItems

or

2) As it is a lost signed and completed cheque it needs to be reported directly to the police station

Thanks

The case should be registered by Dubai Police, not Abu Dhabi Police based on the legal jurisdiction.

Thanks.

Now I'm totally confused.

1) I live in Abu Dhabi. My bank is in Abu Dhabi.

2) The cheque was lost by the other party in Abu Dhabi.

3) Yes, the other party is a company registered in Dubai

Do I have to register the case with the Dubai Police?

You should not be confused. You can register the case in Abu Dhabi as you lost the cheque there and you can register the case in Dubai as the company based there.

Thank you for the clarification.
