Right of the employer to ask for visa expenses upon resignation

Good Day!

I resigned on my probation period and my company wants me to pay AED 5000 for my visa cost and insurance. Am I obliged to pay that money?

I will finish only 3 months and I'm on unlimited contact.

Please, I need your advice.

Thank you!

Dear Questioner,

Visa fees are the responsibility of the employer and the employer is not eligible for reimbursement of the visa fees unless otherwise agreed in the employment contract.

If it is not agreed in the employment contract, you can file a complaint against your employer at the Ministry of Labour or the competent Free Zone where the company is located.

Good Luck.

Thank you, Mr Lane.

Sir, my company did not give me a contract copy, not even an offer letter copy that we are asking for when we start our work.

That's why I don't know what is written in my contract.

The contract should have been submitted to the Ministry of Labour at the time of processing your visa.

You can still file a complaint and they will confirm your rights and obligations.
