Issuing a new cheque to the landlord after selling property

My old landlord has sold the property that I rented from them and has assigned the tenancy contract valid till July next year to the new owner.

The second rental cheque is due in Jan 2019 which was on the previous landlord's name and has been handed over to the new owner who is asking me to replace it with a cheque in his name.

Please advise, as per the law, am I liable to provide the replacement cheque to the new owner?

Dear questioner,

The new owner is doing this to protect his interest, there is nothing wrong in it.

Please make sure to take back your old cheque from the old landlord.
