Q: Dear Sir,
I had taken a personal loan from a bank of AED 173,000 in 2016 and was paying on time until I lost my job in 2018. The total I paid back is AED 173,875.64, and balance to pay is AED 42,986.90
Currently, I don't have a job and after three months of pending instalment since July 2019, the bank collection agent started calling and saying they will bounce the security cheque.
On 8th Oct they had deposited the cheque and bounced and later I saw in internet banking that the cheque number deposited was different from the one which I had signed during the application process.
As I have the copy of cheque with me, I talked to the agent after that and they insisted that it was the cheque that I signed and they aren't giving me more clarification on that.
Kindly advise, what if they go for a case of the deposited cheque with a different serial number?

Is it safe to accept post-dated cheques to drop a fraud cheque case
2
Q: Hi,
I invested AED 75,000 with a company that intended a takeover of CCTV installation, and the company is located in DAFZA with 4 partners.
They made me sign an internal contract which wasn't signed by all the partners and I never got a copy of the same signed by all 4 partners.
I kept chasing them for the same as well as for MOA from DAFZA and name change on Trade Licence but got only excuses.
Finally, after 3 months of chasing them, they informed me that they don't intend to take over the company and wanted to divert my funds elsewhere.
I refused and asked for a refund. They gave me a fraud cheque that got bounced due to the unauthorized signatory. I filed a police complaint, after which the authorized signatory was summoned by police.
Later the signatory contacted me and wanted to settle it in 4 PDCs across 3 months but on a condition that I return him the fraud cheque which is the only proof I have proving his fraud intentions.
Kindly advise if his demand for the return of fraud cheque is valid?

Filing a case to recover a debt without a cheque

3
Q: I own 10% of the shares of a restaurant. The contract I have had already matured and I was issued a cheque.
Naturally, the cheque bounced, but along the way, the cheque was sent back to my old company so I no longer possess the cheque.
And I was promised that the debt will be paid, but more than 1 year has passed and I haven't been paid anything.
I still possess the original contract and a letter stating that he will pay his dues.
Is this usable if I want to file a case claiming that he owes me AED 130k?

How long does child support enforcement take, and how can I speed it up? 0
Hello,
I filed an execution order against my ex-husband to ensure he pays child support. The judge issued an order to impound his vehicles and accounts; however, this has not yet been carried out.
Could you advise on how long this process typically takes and whether there are any additional actions I can take to enforce the payment?
I would appreciate your guidance on the best course of action to ensure my ex-husband complies with the order.
Thank you for your time and assistance!

Can a landlord evict a tenant based on an email, even if the official notice was served afterward? 0
Hello,
Good day!
My landlord has sent me an eviction notice, which I received on 14 August 2024. The reasons are:
- For personal use or close relatives.
- For sale.
Now, my landlord is pressuring me to move out at the end of my contract on 30 April 2025. I am aware that the eviction notice must be served 12 months before the eviction date. In this case, the vacating date must be 14 August 2025.
For context: last year, three months before my tenancy renewal, my landlord sent me an email informing me that I had to move out on 30 April 2024. I objected, as there was no official 12-month eviction notice served through a notary public or registered mail.
Based on this, I renewed my contract at RDC for another year on the same terms.
Today, the landlord is telling me that because he informed me of his intention through email more than a year ago, he can now evict me at the end of this contract, on 30 April 2025, and not wait until the legal notice period ends on 14 August 2025.
What are my rights?

How to solve the OTP issue blocking my visa change while changing jobs and get a new visa? 0
I need legal advice regarding the cancellation of my work permit to join a new company. Here’s a brief overview:
I have worked for a contracting company in Dubai since 2018, with my visa later transferred to Sharjah. After receiving a job offer in Dubai, I resigned, but my old employer’s attempt to cancel my work permit failed due to an OTP issue.
ICP granted permission to cancel my change-of-status visa, but when my new employer applied for my permit, they found the old one still active. I raised a labor complaint with MOHRE on 21 March 2025, but it's still under process.
My family’s grace period expired on 27 Mar 2025, so I sent them back to India. I’m now facing a daily fine of AED 50 for overstaying since my change of status was canceled on 13 Mar 2025.
Once this is resolved, I plan to bring my family back as my son’s school reopens on 07 April 2025.
I would appreciate your advice on resolving the permit cancellation and overstay fines.

Can an employer revoke a previously granted employee benefit? 0
Hi,
I would like to inquire whether an employer has the right to revoke a benefit that was previously granted to an employee.
For instance, if a company provided family status to some employees and gave family tickets in a given year, can they revoke it the following year?

Are the non-compete clauses enforceable in case of resignation to take a better offer? 0
Currently working at Company X in Dubai. I recently got a stronger offer from Company Y, a much larger firm in the same industry but in a different free zone.
When I asked if Company X could match the offer, they proposed a bonus, not a salary adjustment. I resigned. While I didn’t disclose where I was going, they seem to know, and their legal team has started sending letters.
My contract has restrictive clauses, including: “For 12 months post-termination, the employee shall not, without prior written consent, (a) be employed or engaged in any capacity by any business in competition in the UAE with any Restricted Business; (b) have business dealings with any Client or Prospective Client in such competition.”
Friends in law say it’s too broad to enforce. I held a manager role, AED 30k/month, not C-level, though considered a key member. Despite the pressure, I believe they’re overreaching legally.
Please advise if these non-compete clauses are enforceable.
