Requirements of obtaining Turkish citizenship by buying a property

Hello,

I am from Lebanon. A friend of mine told me that, buying property in Turkey grants anyone the right to reside in the country legally because he owns a property, where he renews his residence annually or every two years.

That allows him after about five years to apply for citizenship. is this true?

Is there any way to cut the "five years" residency and apply directly to Turkish citizenship or after one year or two at max?

Please advise as I am thinking of taking such steps.

The Turkish government grants citizenship to whom invests 500.000 USD in real property in Turkey with the condition of not selling the property for 3 years.

The best thing about this option is that the property will belong to you; even you do not live in it personally.

You can lease it to tenants and get rental income. Or you can buy more than one property which total value is 500.000.-USD.

Your family (wife/husband and children) become Turkish citizens in addition to you.

The other option is like your friend told you, you can buy any property and renew the residence permit and after five years.

You have to live in Turkey for five years in person without travelling because the time you travel abroad shall not be counted. However, this option does not provide work permits as well.

Thank you Ms Senguler,

I appreciate taking the time to answer my question.

I just need clarification for one thing.

What did you mean by saying that "likewise your friend did you can buy any property and renew the resident permit and after five years ( you have to live in Turkey five years as a person without traveling because dates you travel abroad shall not be counted)".

What will happen after five years of residency?

Hello,

If you have a real estate in Turkey, you can get a short-term residence permit. This permit is issued for one year and is extended for one year at a time.

However, you must use this property as housing, you cannot use it for any other purpose and you must not be abroad for more than 120 days a year to extend the period.

In addition, if you want your family members to get a residence permit, they must also have property rights on this property.

To obtain Turkish citizenship, you must also reside in Turkey for 5 years without interruption before the date of application.

There is no solution to cut this time. But you can obtain Turkish citizenship by buying real estate worth at least 250,000 US Dollars (USD).

There are some legal conditions for buying this property and it is possible to obtain Turkish citizenship after these conditions are fulfilled and necessary actions are taken.

It should be noted that whether the legal requirements are met is subject to rigorous supervision and is assessed within the concrete case.

It is also important to note that you should seek help to avoid problems caused by not knowing the legislation.

Best regards.
