Deduction of visa expenses from the dues of an employee

Hi.

I had been working in Dubai for a certain LLC company for more than 5 years and recently resigned.

When I got the cheque for my dues I noticed in the calculation that they deducted visa expenses from it.

Is this correct?

Dear Questioner,

Pursuant to your queries, this is not correct.

The employer shall not be legally entitled to receive from the employee, any amount of money against the cost of visa incurred by the employer.

It may also be noted that there are no laws which prescribe that an employee should reimburse the employer towards the visa expenses.

There is no corresponding provision under the UAE Labour Law which obliges the employee to pay such fees. I believe you should raise a complaint with the Labour Department.

I trust you will find this helpful. For further assistance and clarification please feel free to contact me over email.

Regards.

Thank you so much for your response.

I had a discussion with the accounts department and showed them your message.

Finally, they agreed to amend the computation and give me the total amount of dues.

More power and bless you.
