Unpaid debts and potential cases in the UAE
I left Dubai 10 years ago with an unpaid credit card and a personal loan.
I was contacted a few times by a number of different collection agencies but none were willing to put an affordable payment plan in place to repay the debt and I was not in a position to settle the debt in full.
My husband has now gotten a job in Dubai, how can I resolve my case so that I can travel to Dubai with him?

Dear Madam,
Thank you for getting in touch with me on this.
I understand your issue and I would just like to intimate that whenever there is a case of unpaid debt, the bank has two options: i.e. civil and criminal case.
When the bank files a police case, there will be a travel ban levied on you. This travel ban can be lifted by paying a fine (provided the case is filed in Dubai or Abu Dhabi).
After the police case, the bank may file a civil case (in all cases, the bank does not file a civil case since it's expensive and the person is not in the country).
Anyhow, there is no travel ban in the civil case. So even if there is a case, you can enter the country.
Hence I would advise that you first undertake an inspection of police records and have it cleared. Once this case is cleared, you can enter the country and stay with your husband.
Clearing the police case does not mean you have to pay full debt, but you have to bear the penalty only.
In summary, you should inspect the police records, clear it and enter back to the UAE.

I hope you got your answers as adviced by my colleague?
