Disciplinary fine without a reason

Sir,

I am a Safety Officer of a construction project. My employer deducted AED 600 as a fine in last 3 months, and they have not informed me about the reasons nor have given any warning in writing or verbal.

Under the UAE Labour law, the employer can impose a disciplinary penalty, however, he has to follow certain procedures like deducting only a certain percentage of salary, maintaining a register.

None of the penalties stipulated under the UAE Labour law may be imposed on a worker until he has been notified in writing of the charges against him, heard and allowed to have his defense investigated, and until all this has been entered in a special minutes to be placed in his personnel file, with the penalty mentioned at the end of such minutes.

A worker shall be notified in writing of any penalties imposed on him, and of nature and amount thereof, the reasons for their imposition, and the penalty to which he will be liable if he is to repeat the offence.

In simple terms employers are expected to follow a procedure if they want to deduct as a "fine" under the UAE Labour law. Unfortunately no one follows it for the Employer knows that for an amount of aed 600/ the employee will not complain and lose employment ( employer will not be happy to continue the contract).
