Q: Hello there, I have been informed by my employer for 34 months, that my position is no longer required in our Dubai free zone office. I was employed in 2014 to take up a Dubai-based position and I was informed that I would be taking over a Middle East Director in two years. They have asked that I relocate to the UK in 3 months to take up the same position, they have given me 1 week to accept this offer. Given that there is no mobility clause in my employment contract and offer letter, would I be within my right to refuse this offer on the grounds that it is unreasonable as we now know that it would take us (a family of 4 with 2 children) longer than 3 months to plan and move the family back to the UK? What rights do I have if my employer were to make my position redundant, would I have grounds to sue for constructive dismissal as my performance has never been in question?

Q: Dear Madam, Since I have been terminated from the company with a notice period of 30 days effective from 1st May 2019, should I work all these 30 days? I have an unlimited contract. Q: Hi, I worked for a bank in the UAE for more than 10 years and on Dec 16, 2018. They gave me a letter of termination mentioning that due to the realignment of operating model, they don't want to continue my services and the last date of working to be Dec 31, 2018. They also gave the option for me to resign. Since resigning would be a better option to get another job, I decided to submit my resignation and it was accepted and they relieved me by Dec 31, 2018. Later I came to know that the UAE labour law suggests giving one month of notice before termination and 3 months additional compensation in addition to the notice period. Q: My position was made redundant on 1 April 2020. The company stated restructuring as a reason for that. I was given a termination letter along with 4 other colleagues being made redundant from their positions. Meanwhile, one of the 4 colleagues whose position was made redundant has been offered and accepted my position (nearly the same job title) with a higher salary than mine. I served 30 days' notice. Q: 2 months back I filed a complaint to the labor because I wasn't getting off days. My employer decided to give me two off days per month, but after two months he came back saying he is going to terminate me because all workers are complaining, and he going to compensate me. Among the money calculated was all the overtime money, gratuity, pending salaries, dismissal amount (3 months' salary). So we agreed on the amount to be paid, but when they presented the end of service entitlement form, the agreed amount wasn't stated and I refused to sign it. The UAE government introduced the new Unemployment Insurance Law under the Federal Decree-Law No. 13 of 2022 Concerning the Unemployment Insurance Scheme for Unemployed People. The law aims at providing a sort of financial support in case of unemployment for a brief period, probably to help employees who got terminated find another job and avoid failing in other financial obligations.
