Can I travel to India with an emergency certificate without canceling my new residence visa?
Hello,
I am on a residence visa, but I lost my passport. I have already applied for an emergency certificate from the Indian Embassy. Can I go to India without residence visa cancellation?
My company didn’t allow me to cancel my visa; last week I only got my new residence visa. Now, what’s the procedure, Sir?
Without sponsorship involvement, how can I travel to India?
Dear Questioner,
Thank you for your message!
Since you already hold a valid UAE residence visa and have applied for an Emergency Certificate (EC) from the Indian Embassy, you may use the EC as a temporary travel document to return to India.
You do not need to cancel your residence visa in order to travel. However, please note that your UAE residence visa will remain active in the immigration system, and re-entry into the UAE in the future will require a valid passport.
At the airport, you will be required to present your Emergency Certificate along with a valid exit permit/stamp from the UAE immigration.
No involvement from your sponsor is required just for exiting the UAE with an EC, but since your residence visa is still active, the employer remains your sponsor of record.
If you wish to permanently leave employment or avoid future complications, cancellation of the residence visa is advisable, but it is not a requirement for traveling back to India with an EC.
