Q: Hello, My father had some debts due in Dubai, and at that time, he was unable to pay them and still hasn’t. We left the country in 2017, but my mom and I were under his sponsorship, and we didn’t cancel our residency visas. Now I need to go back to Dubai on a work trip. I want to check if this might have any effect on me re-entering on a valid tourist visa. I’ve checked the ICP website, and it shows that my residence permit has been cancelled.

How to protect my residency when switching from a self-employed to an employer-sponsored visa?
Q: I currently hold a Self-Employed Residency Visa from the Dubai Development Authority (DDA – GoFreelance). I’ve been offered a new role with a U.S. university via an Employer of Record (EOR). Their attempt to apply for a labor card through MOHRE was rejected, as it’s not possible for free zone residents. They have asked me to cancel my current visa so they can sponsor me under an employment visa. My concern is that if I cancel my visa and the new employer/EOR withdraws or fails to complete the process, I’ll be left without valid residency. I’ve also been told new self-employment permits are no longer issued, only renewals, so I cannot easily return to my current status. Questions: - Does UAE law offer any protection in this scenario? - What risk-mitigation steps can I take/request before canceling? - If the process fails, what legal options remain for me to stay in the UAE?

What to do if you received judgment in absentia of fine and jail in a case after obtaining Tanazul?
Q: What does “Dispositioned” mean in a UAE - Abu Dhabi case? We have a Tanazul, but the case status is showing Judgment Done, with a 15,000 AED fine and 6 months` prison reserved. Does this mean he will go to prison? We missed one hearing on 28/08/2025. After that, we thought we had Tanazul, so we went to collect the passport, as I am the surety for my father. However, at the police station, they stopped him, saying he had a Tameem. Please help and advise what will happen. We have Tanazul, but the judgment is already done, and no appeal has been filed yet. The status shows Judgment Done on 28/08/2025. We missed the hearing that day, the prison sentence of 6 months is reserved, and a 15,000 AED fine has been issued. What should we do?

Is a domestic worker’s refusal to work considered a resignation or a breach of contract?
Q: Hello, We hired a live-in domestic worker under a 2-year visa and contract/sponsorship through one of the Tadbeer companies. However, after her visa was issued, her performance dropped, and issues started arising. We invested in training her to ensure her performance; instructions and schedules were posted. All documented evidence and even improvement letters were signed by her. But it escalated into continuous repeated mistakes and negligence of duty, with risks to childcare safety, breach of privacy, and she admitted to falsifying her CV and other facts. A few days ago, she refused to work. We informed the agency, and they documented the case as refusal and abandonment for the first 2 days. They advised us to relieve her from childcare duties, which we did immediately. She kept refusing other duties. Then the agency reached out, saying she cannot be forced to work, and she left. I am confused about employer rights: is this considered resignation (with nothing written), or breach? The office says no need, as they are her sponsor, and no notice is needed to us either.2025/09/15

I received a verdict on my personal name for my company unpaid rent without proper notification. What to do?
Q: Hello, our business has unpaid rent. 1. The 30-day notice named my business but also wrongfully named my private name, while the rental contract is solely under the business name. I`m sure it was done in bad faith by the landlord to try to damage me personally. 2. After the 1st notice, I expected an RDC notification, and nothing came. I just logged in today on my app and saw that a verdict was pronounced on the 21st of August in this case, without me even getting an email, messages, or notification at the office to even appear at the 1st instance! How can this be handled? First of all, this rental situation should not involve my private name as the company is the sole tenant on this contract, and second, no notifications were ever sent to me, although at the office every day! Here is my WhatsApp for whoever knows what to do to successfully dispute these tricks by this landlord.

Q: Hi My husband is working in his uncle’s company in Dubai with a salary of AED 8,000 monthly. I am not earning. During the 12th board, they told us to go to India, but we said we did not want to go. Before, one time we went, so my husband’s uncle told him not to pay the rent, saying once they come to the road, they will go to India. My husband kept on saying he would pay the rent.
