How can an investor exit the UAE with unpaid Free Zone fines and limited funds?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I am an investor and have a fine exceeding 10k. I applied for an exit permit under the current amnesty, but it was not approved. I was advised to cancel the facility card. To do so, I need to cancel the license and pay the immigration card fine, which has been expired since September 2023. My company is a Free Zone company in Shams with three visas under the license. I am willing to return home with an exit permit. However, I don’t have enough money—only a small amount that is not sufficient to cover all the fines and visa cancellation fees. Free Zone costs are much higher than those in the mainland. Please advise on the best option I should follow to exit.

Q: Dear Lawyers, My Dubai landlord is proposing a 9.52% rent increase, which I believe is unlawful. The current rent falls within the RERA rental index range, and no increase is permitted according to the index. The landlord’s representative has been uncooperative in providing proof of a Power of Attorney (POA) or any justification for the proposed increase. Questions: 1. Whose responsibility is it to submit a dispute to RERA/RDSC if the proposed rent increase is unlawful—the landlord`s or the tenant`s? 2. Q: Dear Lawyers, My former partner in the company has been saying bad things about me and my family, especially after his cheque payment bounced. He directly threatened, via his company email, to defame me among my relatives. Q: Dear Lawyers, I am a tenant in Dubai and rented an apartment five years ago. It was understood that I would stay in the apartment with my two friends, but this was not documented anywhere. Today, the landlord is unhappy with the rent amount, as rents have risen higher than he can legally increase it. In my latest contract from this year, a line was added in the additional comments stating that sharing is not allowed.
