I bought second-hand a car from a showroom and discovered a major damage. What can I do?
Q: Hello, I bought a second-hand car from a showroom based in the Ras Al Khor area. When the car was taken to care in service I learned that the car had an accident that was around AED 206K. I bought the car for AED 133K also. They did not say anything about the accident and when I checked the car according to the plate number, there was not any notification online. I have been in Dubai for around 1 year and I do not know what should I do right now. The car brand is [----] - 2021.

Can a non-Muslim convert to Islam and marry a Muslim man without her Wali?
Q: Hello. A non-Muslim girl wants to come to the UAE, convert to Islam, and get married to a Muslim expat of her nationality in the UAE. Her father knows and approves the marriage but they do not know about her plan to convert to Islam. She did not inform them because of the fear of being persecuted. In this case, can the marriage happen without her Wali? If not, what other option does she have?

What to do if the partner you add on your license changes the terms without your consent?
Q: My wife has a license in Dubai. Later we took one partner for 50% of her license. My wife signed the MOU in Amer Center without reading the changes made by him in terms that were not agreed upon. Later when we checked the copy of the MOU, we found that he had removed her name as a manager and put his name. He mentioned 50% shareholder for each partner in the company but in profit and loss, he mentioned 75% for him and 25% for her and bank account authority also he took solely. We asked him to change the terms as we never discussed or agreed on those terms. But he has now full control of the license and is not ready to change the MOU terms. Is there any legal way to compel him to change MOU terms?

Can I receive EOSB after my visa cancellation with MOHRE if I didn't claim it?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I complained to MOHRE to cancel my visa, and I did not claim my EOSB (gratuity and leave salary) as I was thinking I would file a separate complaint for it. I wanted to start my business as soon as possible, or else I would have lost many clients. After the cancellation, I found out that I can no longer claim my EOSB. What should I do next? I am planning to file the case again after a month. Should I complain again to MOHRE after a while? Will they accept it? Or should I go directly to civil court or labor court? What will the total cost be?

I gave a brand expensive watch to agent for service and they changed delivery and fees. What can I do?
Q: Dear. I gave a brand and expensive watch to an agent for service. Only `normal service` at the beginning of 2024. They gave me an estimate and completion time and on this basis, I agreed. Later, they changed the price for service and time for completion many times without my agreement, I told them this was not acceptable because I already agreed and given my watch. Until now, my watch is not done and they have not replied to me with an update or anything. I have already reported this to consumer protection in Dubai. They already spoke to them but no use and told me I could try legal action if I wanted. I am confused and cannot believe a famous shop can do this with a business license and take valuables like this. Kindly give me an idea of what I can do. I have all communications in email and sms. I signed a contract as a freelancer with a company. Can they make me sign a non-compete clause in the contract?

How to get the unpaid rent from the tenant and save time if he plans to file an appeal?
Q: Hi, I am looking for the following but due to financial constraints, we are low on budget as we have to pay EMI and Mollak for a flat where the tenant is not paying. 1- File the first instance case, in this, I need someone who knows Arabic and can be there with my relative who is the owner of the flat during the first hearing. 2- The opposing party will file an appeal so we have to get the period of appeal reduced by the judge and make it mandatory for the tenant to pay 50% of the rental amount till the time of appeal for filing an appeal. This is for the eviction of a non-paying tenant.

Can the wife lose the custody of her children due to a medical condition?
Q: I am a Hindu and my husband has filed for divorce in Dubai. We both stay in Dubai. He claimed for custody of our 11-month-old twins. The divorce is because of domestic violence and interference by his mother. I have had a history of epilepsy (a very rare occurrence) since 2011. I have been taking regular medication and working since 2011 as a teacher. The last time I had a seizure was in August 2023 when I was pregnant. No one was hurt although I fainted. My husband is claiming for the custody on these grounds. I have been staying with my kids, all by myself for the past 2 months. My husband has left me and my kids and stays somewhere else. I have worked in the US (2015-16) all by myself and have been working as a teacher in Dubai for 1.5 years. I have been driving in India since 2007 with no accidents or fines. My epilepsy has never affected my profession or lifestyle. I have been to different countries all by myself. Are there fair chances of me getting custody of my 11-month-old twins?+4
