Q: Hi everyone, I`m a mobile app developer for iOS and Android. I have a mobile app idea that helps people find daily commutes. I’ve completed the Android application and want to launch it on the Play Store. Before going live, I have some concerns—do I need to apply for a license, or is there any legal process I should follow? I developed the app independently, with no company involvement. The app will be free for everyone, with no revenue model attached yet. I would appreciate any suggestions or guidance. Thank you!

Can I execute a Dubai judgment in Sharjah, or is it restricted to Dubai?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I have a question regarding the execution of a judgment. I filed a civil case in Dubai against someone who works and resides there, and I received a judgment in my favor. Can I open an execution case in Sharjah based on that judgment, or does it have to be in Dubai only? If I can open it in Sharjah, on what grounds can I do so?

Can a new developer cancel my old SPA and take my unit if I refuse to sign the new SPA?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I have a question regarding a new developer taking over a property from an old developer who fled Dubai many years ago. The new developer is trying to get investors to sign a new SPA, which includes additional fees. I have not signed the new SPA yet. The new developer claims: "The Judicial Committee for Incomplete & Cancelled Real Estate Projects in the Emirate of Dubai approved the continuation of the project as planned and instructed the new developer to issue amended SPA contracts to all investors, taking into consideration that non-compliant investor contracts shall be canceled in accordance with the procedures and regulations applied." Accordingly, as per the verdicts, they request all investors to comply with the decisions and verdicts issued within a 15-day notice. I have paid 80% of the total fees, and the project is about 60% complete. Does the new developer have the right to cancel the old SPA and take my unit if I don`t sign the new SPA? Also, can I request the project to be completed?

How can I get a refund from a contractor who failed to complete renovation work?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I hired a contractor for my apartment renovation, and we agreed on the scope of work based on the quotation they provided. I have paid them almost 90% of the total value, but they have not completed the work on time and have not used the materials specified in the quote. They have also significantly delayed the project, and despite multiple follow-ups, they never provided the milestone details for the payment schedule, nor did they adhere to the timelines they committed to. I have payment details, the agreed-upon quotation signed by them, as well as email exchanges and WhatsApp group discussions. However, I don’t have a formal contract or agreement. I made payments whenever they requested, but they have cheated me, resulting in a significant loss of time and money due to delays. I am seeking legal help to obtain a refund from this company and take necessary action against them.

Negotiate asset split and spousal support: direct talks, mediator, or lawyer negotiations?
Q: Hello, I am currently getting divorced from my wife in Abu Dhabi. We are Americans, got married in the US 6 years ago, and are both non-Muslims. We are officially divorced and we wrapped up custody proceedings for our 19-month-old daughter last week and it was decided for 50/50, joint custody. I believe the next stage is for asset split and spousal support. Is that best handled with one-on-one talks with my ex-wife, or the use of a moderator, or have lawyer-to-lawyer negotiations? Also, can spousal support be paid from the former wife to the former husband? In the US this is very possible. I am very concerned about this as my ex-wife makes considerably more than I do (we moved to Abu Dhabi so she could take a lucrative position). Thank you!

Can I force my wife to let me live with her and our children during Khula proceedings?

Q: Dear Lawyers, I’m a divorced mother with custody of my 4-year-old son from Dubai Courts. My colleague recently traveled to Turkey, and she was asked to provide an NOC from the child`s father. Do I need an NOC from my son’s father to travel? I don’t have a travel ban. I traveled with him once two years ago without any NOC and didn’t face any issues. Would I face any problems if I travel? Should I visit the Evacuation Department in person to complete the eviction and get my keys?
Q: Dear Lawyers, I opened an execution case against my tenant who was not vacating the apartment and was not paying the rent. After the execution date, I received a report from the police that the apartment is being evacuated. However, when I created a "Request to follow up execution proceeding" e-request to complete the process and get the keys, my request was rejected with the message "على مقدم الطلب مراجعة قسم الاخلاء," which translates to "The applicant must refer to the Evacuation Department." So, do I need to personally visit the Evacuation Department? I am outside the UAE but can come to the UAE to get the keys. Or, do I need to create an e-request in a different category?

Can I charge my friend with breach of trust for not sending money from my property sale?
Q: Hello, I gave an online POA to my friend, who has a UAE residence visa, to sell my property. I gave another online POA to his brother to receive money on my behalf. I do not have a residence visa. They did not provide me with a copy of the POAs. He sold my property in JLT, and his brother received the money, but they did not send the money to me. Can I now open a case against them with the charge of "breach of trust" or any other charge that suits this case? Thanks a lot!

According to the contract agreement given to me by the company, if I leave before the fixed contract period, I have to give two months` notice and pay a sum of 6000 dirhams.
