Is it illegal to refuse to share my new job and visa details with my previous employer?
Hi sirs,
I recently changed my job and work visa.
My previous employer is asking for my new company's visa and status change, but I don't want to share my personal information.
Is it illegal here?
Hello,
Under UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021), there is no legal obligation for an employee to disclose their new visa or employment details to a former employer after resignation and visa cancellation, unless there is an ongoing legal matter (e.g., non-compete clause, absconding case, or contractual dispute) requiring such information.
Once the previous employer has completed the cancellation of the work permit and visa via MOHRE, their role ends, and the employee has the right to privacy regarding subsequent employment.
Thank you!
Dear Client,
It is not illegal to refuse to share your new visa or status details with your previous employer. However, during the visa transfer process in the UAE, your old employer may need to provide a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and other documents to complete the transfer, but they are not entitled to your new employer’s private information.
You are only required to share documents and information as needed by the authorities or as part of the official transfer process, not for your previous employer’s personal records.
