I have an offer letter from a new company. How do I resign and get the cancellation papers?
Hello,
I have an offer letter from a new company, but I'm already working in another company.
How can I resign and get the cancellation papers, and how much time will it take?
Hello,
The duration of your notice period is determined by your employment contract and UAE Labor Law. If you resign before the end of your contract, the notice period is generally between one to three months, as stipulated in your contract.
Have an open and professional conversation with your manager about your resignation and your last working day.
Your employer will apply for the cancellation of your labor card (work permit) through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE).
You might be required to sign some documents as part of this process. If you need further clarification, you may ask.
Dear questioner,
If you had only started the job in the current company and signed the labor contract, then you need to serve 30 days.
If you had completed the probation period in the current company, then you need to serve the notice period mentioned in the labor contract.
If you need further clarification, kindly share your WhatsApp number.
Hello,
According to UAE law, an employee must submit their resignation in accordance with the notice period specified in their employment contract (usually one month) in order to receive cancellation papers.
If the resignation is not in line with the contract terms or if there is a dispute with the employer, the employee can file a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.
The cancellation process usually takes 7 to 10 days after the resignation is submitted.

Hello,
Under UAE Labour Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021), an employee may resign from their current job by providing a written notice of at least 30 days (or as specified in their contract).
After serving the notice period, the employer is legally required to cancel the employee’s labour contract, work permit, and residency visa, typically within 2–5 working days.
The employee is entitled to end-of-service benefits, including pending salary, unused leave encashment, and gratuity (if employed for over a year).
As per Article 43 of the law, failure to comply with the notice period may result in compensation equal to the notice period's wages. Employees cannot join a new employer until all cancellations are processed and a new work permit is issued.
Thank you!
