Are we obliged to pay for two days extension after leave due to Dubai weather conditions?
Hi,
One of the employees extended her leave for two more days due to the flight cancellation because of the rain in Dubai.
I want to know whether the company needs to pay for extended leave.
Is there any rule mentioned in the labor law about this case?
Greetings.
In this case, the theory of emergency circumstances applies, and therefore the company is obligated to pay the costs of extending the vacation due to the weather conditions.

Thank you for reaching out with your question regarding extended leave due to a flight cancellation.
In situations where an employee's leave is extended due to unforeseen circumstances such as flight cancellations caused by weather conditions, the relevant provisions of the UAE Labour Law may come into play.
While the UAE Labour Law does not specifically address every scenario related to extended leave due to external factors, it does emphasize the importance of employers and employees coming to mutually beneficial arrangements in such situations.
Typically, employers are encouraged to handle such cases with compassion and flexibility, taking into consideration the circumstances beyond the employee's control.
While the law does not mandate payment for extended leave in such cases, it is advisable for both parties to discuss and agree upon a fair and reasonable solution.
This may include options such as utilizing accrued leave days, adjusting work schedules, or finding alternative arrangements that are satisfactory to both the employer and the employee.
As every situation is unique, I recommend further discussion and review of your specific circumstances to provide you with tailored guidance and assistance.
Please feel free to reach out to me via WhatsApp or phone to schedule a consultation. I would be more than happy to assist you further and provide clarity on your rights and obligations under the UAE Labour Law.
