Rental Dispute for the non-payment of rent

The employee of the real estate agency frauded 6-7 tenants from our building and ran away with the rent money.

Now, the real estate lawyer is suing me for not paying the rent and it’s my fault that I gave the cheques to their employees.

What can I do?

Hello there,

First and foremost, in whose favour were the cheques issued?

Who signed the Tenancy contract?

Ideally, the cheque should be issued in favour of the Landlord.

Please provide more details to advise accordingly.

Mistakenly, I issued the cheque on the employee name. It’s not even my handwriting though it’s my signature, and on that precise cheque, I didn’t get a receipt.

It’s a very well done fraud, but the landlord found an agreement with all the tenants except me. they didn’t inform me officially about what happened and what do they expect from me.

They are just bullying me and calling me to tell me that they sued me, and mostly, is that I’m still in my half year term and legally residing in the flat.
