Do I need a UAE freelancer permit to work with US clients and receive payments in the UAE?
Q: I work as a Director of Project Management in a company in DMCC. During my free time, I have tried providing Project Management Consultation to clients in the USA as a freelancer on UpWork (an Online Freelancing platform) and have seen good traction. I want to pursue this further during my free time. I am currently holding a UAE Golden Visa.
1. I would like to know if I am required to hold a freelancer permit in the UAE if I only serve clients in the USA? I don't have or plan to have any clients in the UAE or in GCC.
2. My clients in the USA have been paying me via UpWork so far, but I would like to receive this money directly via wire transfer to my UAE bank account or through online payment portals. Is this legal to do so?
3. I hold an NOC from my current employer to work on freelance projects during my free time.
Can you please clarify the above questions?

Can my employer block me from joining a competitor without a non-compete clause?
Q: Hello,
I don't have a non-compete clause in my contract, and I am moving to a competitor. I have given 2 months’ notice, and my current employer asked me to take 3 weeks’ garden leave until the end of my notice period.
However, today I received a letter from my current employer stating that I cannot work for a competitor for a period of 1 year, and they are also telling me not to contact any suppliers, clients, or colleagues.
Is this correct and reasonable? I can't be idle for a year. What can I do?

I am seeking procedural advice for a criminal appeal hearing in Dubai.
I am the victim in a "theft by coercion" case. The defendants were acquitted, and I filed the appeal myself. My appeal memo lists some points. My hearing is November 25th. I am not familiar with the procedure.
My questions are:
Will the judges/defence question me, or will I be allowed to present my arguments from my memo?
Most importantly: I found new, strong contradictions in the case file that are not in my written appeal memo. Can I verbally introduce these new arguments at the hearing, or is the hearing strictly limited only to the points in my written application?
Any guidance on what to expect and if I can present new points is greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I received a job offer from an LLC located in Al Mareija, Sharjah. Initially, they offered me a very low salary, but after I shared my current salary slip, they raised it by more than 100%.
I suspect it might be a fraud, as the number provided on their website is not reachable, and the website itself is very simple and does not clearly mention the nature of their business.
I have not paid anything to them but have shared my documents after the interview. I got this job offer through an Indian HR consultant.
Please advise on this matter!

How can I sell a property registered under my minor daughters’ names within a month?
Hello,
I have bought a property and registered it under my daughters’ names. Their ages are 16, 17, and 20 years old. The property is on handover now, and we got approval to go for a mortgage.
However, I have decided to sell it. What would be the easiest way to get approval to sell the property within 1 month and to have the revenue divided as follows: 70% from the selling price will go to a better investment, and 30% will go for their education?
Please advise me.

I have filed a cheating case in the Dubai Misdemeanor Court (initial complaint at Raffa Police Station).
Hearings have not yet started. I now have credible information that the accused plans to dispose of his business to avoid repayment.
I want to file, within the same criminal case:
- A petition to freeze the transfer/sale of the business.
- A petition for civil recoverability through the criminal proceedings.

I seek advice regarding ongoing harassment from a woman whose husband I was previously involved with. The affair ended immediately after she discovered it last year, and I apologized both in person and through WhatsApp.
Despite this, she has continued to harass me by sharing private photos, videos, and messages (taken from her husband’s phone without consent) with my family, friends, and workplace. She also contacted my employer, disclosed personal details, and sent insulting messages to me and my relatives. I have proof of these acts.
I wish to know what legal actions I can take to stop her (harassment, defamation, or privacy violation), what evidence I should prepare, any possible counterclaims, and if this could affect her ongoing divorce case.

Is it legal for a Dubai landlord to demand a security deposit when moving out?
My Dubai Landlord is asking for a security deposit at the time of moving out. If not paid, I will not get the NOC from them. This wasn't discussed or mentioned in my tenancy contract.

What action should we take if an ex-employee overstays and works illegally after visa cancellation?
We are a company based in Internet City Freezone holding a DDA license. One of our employees was relieved from duty on 11th September 2025, and her visa grace period of 30 days expired on 11th October 2025.
She has not obtained a new visa and is currently working elsewhere illegally without converting her visa or leaving the country.
On the cancellation paper, it is written that we must inform GDFRA of non-compliance. DDA has suggested filing an absconding case; otherwise, there could be sanctions on the company and blocking of the establishment card.
What should we do, and who should bear the cost of this?

Is it normal for an agency to charge a 5% commission on the total rent for a 3-year lease?

I have negotiated a multiyear rental through an agency. I was expecting the fee to be 5% of the first year’s cost, but I now see the draft contract showing 5% of the total rent for 3 years.
