The risks of issuing post-dated rent cheques
Q: Hi, When signing the tenancy agreements, is it wise to give post-dated cheques for the quarterly payments in advance? Because from what I gather, when you issue a cheque you are bound to honour it although the contract is not fulfilled at a later part. Please advise. Thank you.

Claiming money back from a door to door salesman
Q: A sales agent recently came into our house (around 7 pm) to do a demonstration on an expensive vacuum cleaner. After several hours, my friend and I decided to take 1 unit each because they have offered an instalment payment scheme for 18-24 months. The following morning at around 10 am, I tried to call the agent and sent him a message that I don`t want to proceed with the purchase as my husband did not agree to it. He is telling me that I can return the machine but I have to pay AED 4,000 contract cancellation fee, claiming that the machine has already been registered internationally under my name and the fee they are asking is for the cancellation. I did not even open the machine and notified him in less than 24 hours and now I have to pay AED 4,000. Is it right for them to write in the contract such terms on the cancellation? Also, they refused to take back the machine until I have given them full cheques for the AED 4,000 penalty. Thank you

Q: Hello, I am an Indian Hindu expat residing in the UAE since 2009-12 & 2013 till date and married since 2009. I hold an employment visa and not dependent on my husband. I have been living separately from him since March 2018 to date and we both mutually want to divorce due to compatibility issues. Settlement for credit card overdue to avoid legal action
Q: I have a Najm credit card, I used to do a minimum payment every month. I am working for a company for the past 2 years. I am not getting salary on time I used to get salary after every 2 or 3 months. I did them a minimum payment but late by arranging for one or another. I came to know that there is a final settlement for the credit card where you can pay a fixed amount every month. I requested them for the past 6 months but they didn`t help me. Also, I came to know that they have put my salary of 11500 but I am getting a salary of 5000/-. Every month they are torturing me, for that can you help me with this. They also say they will deposit my security cheque and file a police complaint. This time when I went to meet one of the people for Najm card, I told him about my situation but they are not ready to listen. He gave me two options, either to pay 18500/- in one stroke or 20500/- in 2 instalments

Obtaining a UAE police clearance certificate for immigration
Q: Hi Nikhat, I am applying for a New Zealand residency and need a Dubai Police Clearance Certificate for my stay in Dubai from 2006 to 2009. I had applied for a credit card in the year 2009 and had never used it, but I assume due to some annual fees there was some outstanding amount. How do I get this sorted to get a PCC? Also, I do not have an Emirates ID and have taken a fingerprint card from New Zealand attested by the UAE embassy. Please guide me or give me the contact details of anyone who can help me.

Eviction of the tenant for failing to pay the rent
Q: I have rented an apartment to a Saudi national in Dubai with 4 cheques. My tenant`s third cheque has bounced which was due on 20th November, and after repeated phone calls/messages and emails, he is unable to pay. He always asks for a few more days and then disappears. Currently, he is residing in Saudi and claims he cannot travel because of sickness.
