Civil case for a bounced cheque after closing criminal case
Last year in April 2018, one bank filed a criminal case against me for not paying the credit card. I have settled it in the police station and paid the fine for AED 2020.
The police said the case is already closed. The bank cannot present the same cheque to file another case against me.
And after 1 year, one law firm contacted me chasing for the unpaid dues from that bank and said they will file a case against me.
Can this be possible? And what case can they file?

Dear Questioner,
Thanks for your enquiry online.
The case wherein you paid the fine was the criminal case and once you pay the fine that criminal case is closed.
But using the same cheque, the bank can file a civil case also against you for recovery of the amount covered by the cheque.
The bank might have entrusted that law firm to proceed with the civil case and that's the reason the firm contacted you.
You can appear in this case once you get notification from the court either personally or through a lawyer and defend the same based on the available documents with you.
