Is it legal for an employer to confiscate an employee's passport?

Dear Sir/ Madam,
Thank you for getting in touch with me for this.
Please note that it is utterly unlawful for the employer to keep the employee's passport.
You have the right in law to keep your own passport. If the employer insists to keep the passport, then you have a choice to file an urgent case with the court and the police will aid you to get the passport back.
