Can an Indian man in Dubai be prosecuted for polygamy?
As-salamu alaykum,
I am an Indian living in Dubai and I want to marry an Ethiopian woman who lives in her country.
I would like to marry her as my second wife without the permission of my first wife, who lives in India.
Polygamy is illegal under Indian law, so I am wondering if I would be prosecuted by the law in India or the UAE if my first wife files a complaint about this issue.

Dear Questioner,
Unless you are permitted by your personal law to marry again, Section 494 of the Indian Penal Code will apply.
This section states that anyone who marries again while their first spouse is still living is guilty of bigamy and can be punished with imprisonment for up to seven years and/or a fine.
