How to retrieve a loan given to a friend in cheques for business set-up?
Dear sir/madam,
I gave one of my friends AED 35,000/- to set up his business in Dubai.
It has been almost a year now and he's not willing to give me my money back.
I gave him the money via cheques, but we didn't sign any agreement.

You can sue this friend, but you will need to prove (through chats or witnesses) that the reason you wrote him these cheques was to extend a loan and not because you owe him.

Regardless if an agreement was signed or not, as long as you have some form of evidence to back up your claim being that he has agreed to pay you back the money you loaned him, then you can send him a legal notice at first.
If he still does not agree to pay you back, then you may file a case against him in Dubai Courts claiming compensation.
Please note that any form of a message such as WhatsApp messages or emails can be used as evidence in Court and will make your case much stronger.
