Dear questioner, An employer may ask employees to work overtime provided the overtime does not exceed two hours per day. However, the worker will then be entitled to overtime pay based on the normal salary + 25% of that pay (50% if it is between 10 pm to 4 am). Kindly note that this does not apply to part-time workers. The company contract states that no overtime payment will be made. Is this legal?

Q: Hi, My company closed and terminated everyone and is willing to pay for a 14-day notice period, but not willing to pay overtime which is more than 50 hours. Its contract states: "Overtime work may be required in peak periods to meet deadlines, and this may in some cases include weekends and public holidays. No overtime payment will be made." Isn’t having such statements in the contract against the law, as the law states differently? How can I go about this?

Q: We are engineers working for a company doing technical support for customers. They were asking us before to work on weekends on an on-call basis & we were given compensation even if there were calls or no calls. For the last 4 or 5 years, the new manager removed the compensation if there were no calls on weekends despite us restricting our time at home or not going far or instead enjoying the weekends with personal or family matters. The manager will only compensate us if there are service calls that are chargeable & no compensation if non-chargeable like warranty calls. Is this legal?

Should I report excessive overtime beyond labor law limits that impacted my well-being to MOHRE?

While working for my ex-employer, I have consistently worked overtime, often exceeding the legal limits outlined in UAE Labor Law (Articles 17, 18, and 19). This includes working on weekends and late into the night specifically in April 2024. While I have submitted overtime requests and received payments for these hours, I believe that the excessive workload has negatively impacted my well-being and may have violated labor laws. Can I cancel my house sale contract without extra fees after personal plans changed?

Dear Lawyers, I signed a Form F with a buyer for the sale of my house as we were planning to leave the country. The contract was signed about a month ago, but the handover is not until August. Due to personal circumstances changing, we are no longer leaving Dubai and would like to cancel Form F. The Form F contract stipulates that we have to pay the buyer 10% of the purchase value. The real estate agent is now claiming that we also have to pay the buyer's real estate commission and the conveyancing fee. Our understanding is that the 10% penalty is the only penalty. Which is correct, and what are the next steps to dispute this? Also, is there any way to dispute the 10% itself under the law due to personal circumstances changing?
