An employer is forcing an employee to work overtime. What are the options?

Dear Lawyers,

I am being required to work overtime without being paid for it, and if I don't comply, my salary will be cut and my visa will be canceled. They have also threatened to mark my passport as "absconding."

What should I do in this situation?

Dear questioner,

An employer may ask employees to work overtime provided the overtime does not exceed two hours per day.

However, the worker will then be entitled to overtime pay based on the normal salary + 25% of that pay (50% if it is between 10 pm to 4 am).

Kindly note that this does not apply to part-time workers. If your employer is not paying you for overtime, then you can submit a complaint against your employer to MOHRE.
