Cancellation of visa and getting labor dues while being abroad

Hi,

I hope you can give me some advice and guidance relating to visa cancellation and departing the UAE.

I am currently employed, by a global company, in the UAE. I have been based between Dubai and Europe, I have not exceeded 6 months outside the UAE during that period.

My current visa expires on 16/10/22. I have taken an offer to transfer to Europe permanently. I have suggested I transfer on the date my current visa expires - 16/10. Do I need to return to the UAE for visa cancellation or, can my employer, as a sponsor, cancel the visa online?

Regarding gratuities, as I understand it, the UAE law is that they must pay this to me before the cancellation of my visa. Can I elect where those gratuities are paid?

I would prefer for the final salary and gratuities to be paid to my account in Europe, can I request or insist on this?

Dear questioner,

Why do you want to get transferred on the same date your visa expires? You can complete all cancellation procedures and collect your dues from your employer and then move to Europe.

There is no immediate rush on the transfer; terminating on that date, when the visa expires, made logical sense, but yes, it could be any time before of course.

I may not have been clear, but I am not currently in the UAE so it was less about the date of termination, more about trying to ensure all matters can be managed remotely and I can have my gratuity paid to me in Europe, not to a Dubai bank account.

Sir, can you clear me the following:

1. Is your current employer in Europe and the employer in the UAE the same?

2. If not, hope you have intimated to your employer in the UAE about not renewing the visa.

3. Yes, your visa can be canceled but your accommodation/bank accounts/credit cards you need to close personally.

4. Transfer of your F&F to your Europe account can be requested with your employer in the UAE, but he is not legally bounded to transfer it.

My advice would be to come to the UAE and complete all the formalities personally.
