Are individuals allowed to lend money on interest?

Dear sir/madam,

A friend gave me a personal loan for which I gave a security cheque. After reconciling accounts, I was supposed to get the security cheque back.

Instead, he wanted interest, and when I refused, he put a date on my security cheque and deposited the same without my knowledge.

What is the best course of action?

Hello,

In the UAE, it is illegal for an individual to lend money on interest. Only licensed banks/institutions can charge interest in accordance with the regulations in place.

For more assistance, you can call me.

Thank you!

Good day,

You can file an urgent civil suit requesting the court to order the other party to return your cheque, provided you have ample proof of the said payment in full.

It is important to submit all necessary proof including WhatsApp/email communication, etc to substantiate that the liability pertaining to this cheque is already paid completely.

For case filing, you can contact us.

Dear questioner,

You have to file an objection to the enforcement of the cheque. In that objection, you should prove the narrative mentioned in your question through means such as (WhatsApp messages, letters, witnesses, or if need be oath directed to your friend).

This will nullify the cheque and you can prove that you are clear from any debt to your friend.
