Can the landlord send eviction notice to the tenanct in the middle of tenancy contract?

I have been served an eviction notice to vacate my home rental within 12 months.The notice receive 2 months after I renewed my 12 months contract. Is this legal?

My understanding is that the eviction notice should be served upon expiry of contract and not after contract renewal.

Appreciate the advise as I wish to stay longer in the same property. What is the best approach?
