Q: Is there any legal action I can take against a person for spreading false hearsay stories publicly which are false and not even linked to his company & he never checks with me on the true facts? The background story: I have legal negotiations and proceedings going on with a company that signed a business deal (between companies) with my company registered outside the UAE. While all this is ongoing legally, I get to know that the employee of this company with whom I am legally negotiating the disputed contract separately has gone and spoken to my ex-employer's CEO (as they are good friends) and they have started telling rumors and wrong facts in the market making everyone think that "I ran away with the money". This is ruining my reputation with friends and ex-colleagues with whom I worked for a decade and also in the industry I worked in generally in Dubai. I do have at least 3 people who have come forward and told me about these stories from the same ex-employer. Appreciate guidance.

Q: We want legal advice to take legal action against an Abu Dhabi based company. We are a USA based C-type Corporation, registered since 2004 in the USA, and paying taxes and contributing to the growth of the country. On 14/05/2010, we entered into a channel partner agreement with a medical supplies company in Abu Dhabi. The medical supplies company didn’t stop at this point and it gained access to our company intellectual property through gainfully employing our employees. The medical supplies company made several payment defaults and started controlling over the gain of the business that we are deriving from customers based in UAE. We were cheated by the Chairman & Director of the medical supplies company on payment defaults and control over the business gain for AED 3.31 million in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Q: My ex-employer put a criminal case on me and I was in custody for 3 days, and finally, the prosecutor closed my case saying there's lack of evidence. Now, this employer is taking my case as a reference to spoil my reputation in the market. She is going to all clients telling them I am a criminal and not to talk to me and work with me. She did this when my case was open and even now she continued to do same. I am very disturbed and no one is ready to give me a job because of this. I have proof that she sent emails stating I am a criminal. I want to file a case against her, can I do this as per the UAE law?

The provisions of this Federal Decree-Law No. (31) of 2021 Promulgating the Crimes and Penalties Law, known as the "New UAE Penal Code", governs criminal actions in the United Arab Emirates. The New Penal Code repeals the previous UAE Penal Code (Federal Law No. (3) of 1987 Promulgating the Penal Code).
