The landlord wants to collect the last cheque in cash. What to do?

Hi,

I received a call from the landlord that he wants to collect the last cheque for the last cheque period in cash. He claims that he left the country and closed his bank accounts.

So I want to know what is the legal procedure? And if I decide to pay cash, what should I get in return in addition to the cheque?

Also, do I have the right to reject or not? And what is the best advice, please?

My sincere thanks!

Dear questioner,

You have the right to reject and deposit the cheque into the RDC and they will notify him to receive his cheque.

Or you can pay in cash and in return, you should get a written and signed affidavit where he mentions that he received this amount in exchange for this cheque amount and he clears your responsibility towards him of any future claims in regards to the tenancy contract number.

This affidavit should contain all of his personal information and a clear review in regards to the subject of the affidavit.

Kindly contact me via email for more information.
