Can the employer hold visa cancellation and passport to see the new employee's visa?
Dear Lawyer,
I'm canceling my job visa with my employer to shift to a new job. They provided me with the cancellation paper.
But they have asked to provide my new visa status change copy in order to release my passport, gratuity, leave salary and insurance continuity papers... etc. Is this legal??
Can you advise me on the same?

Dear Questioner,
Please note that your employer does not have any right to hold your passport no matter what the reason is.
Please file an urgent complaint with Dubai Courts to get an order in your favor with the help of which you may get your passport from your employer.
Further, regarding other dues, please file a labor complaint with the Ministry of Labor if your company is a mainland company or else with the appropriate free zone authority.
