Q: Hi, I got a paper and I signed it. That paper included the following: "This job offer has been made up of three counterparts duly signed by both parties. Each party shall receive and retain a copy thereof and the third one shall be submitted by the first party to MOL as a prerequisite for issuance of the work permit." The paper also had first party signature, as the second party signature was mentioned my name, and I put my signature. I got the letter in September 2017 but have not received the visa yet. How long is the time of validity of this letter? Shall I get the visa? Or the company can stop this letter?

Q: After 10 days asking for an update from the employer in the UAE, he says this. What can be the possible reason for stuck? Below is the employer's email copy: "I hope this email finds you well. Please be advised that your visa application is taking longer than expected. At this point, we are still waiting for the Labour Approval and after that, the visa paper to get posted from the Immigration System. Hence, we are trying our best to resolve the issue and our PRO is following up on the same. Apologies for any inconvenience the above may have caused, and rest assured we will continue to keep you posted with regards to your start date with us."

Q: Dear Sir, Would you please tell me how much time a company needs to get a visa? I received a mail from a company, "Currently we are on the 1st stage of the visa process, where we are waiting for the approved quota and after will send you the offer letter provided by the Ministry of Labor". The UAE has adopted a major reform in its legislative system that brought about 40 new laws and amendments to the company law, criminal law, personal status, among others. The amendments aim to develop the legislative structure in various sectors, the labor law being one of these, was the most recent. We try in this article to shed light on the changes introduced with the new labor law and their significance on both, the employer and employee.

The provisions of this Law, known as "UAE Labour Law", govern the relationship between employers and employees and other labour matters in the United Arab Emirates. There are special labour related regulations applicable in some of the free zones in the UAE.

According to this Decree, tentative approval to admit a foreign worker for the purpose of employment in the UAE cannot be granted until an Employment Offer that conforms with the Standard Employment Contract is duly signed by the employee and presented to the Ministry of Labour.

The Decision establishes a new employment system in the UAE allowing employers to recruit employees classified as skilled workers level 1 and 2 for a part-time job. Under this decision, skilled employees who are already employed elsewhere, can work with more than one employer under a part-time contract without the permission of any employer.

The provisions of this Decree-Law, known as "New UAE Labor Law", govern labour relations in the private sector of the United Arab Emirates. The New Labor Law repeals the previous UAE Labor Law (Federal Law No. (8) of 1980).
