Legal requirements for starting business by a minor in the UAE

I am planning to start my business in retail. I am a 16-year-old Emirati national and I have full approval from my parents.

What legal requirements must I obtain and what laws should I follow?

Hi,

I trust you are well.

Having your guardians' consent is a great start, considering that you are still not 18 years of age.

Depending on where you choose to set-up your company, one of your guardians may have to be an authorized signatory until you reach the legal age.

We can guide you through the process and assist you with your company formation requirements.

For further information, please contact us by email.

Dear Client,

Thanks for your query.

I hope you are fine.

In this situation, until you attain the legal age of 18 years, your guardian will be your signatory. You can register the business with either economic department or free-zone.

For further information, you can write an email or call us. We have a good team of lawyers to handle all kinds of cases. I am happy to help you. You can fix a personal meeting at our office.

Thanks and Regards

Hi,

Ramadan Kareem,

It's indeed a mature and appreciated decision to start your own business. Nowadays, very few children have thoughts like yours.

There are various steps and procedures to start the company.

Primarily, the type of business, the customer base and the aim with the profitability need to be kept in mind.

Secondly, the legal structure and the area where you will be comfortable to establish a business, either in a free zone or mainland.

Third, since you are an Emirati, so how many employees, facilities... etc., you need to obtain?

And many more criteria need to be addressed and we need to draft a business plan. Once, everything is finalised we can start the process.

Please free to contact us by phone or email.

Regards,

Khaled.

I too started my first business at 16.

Before speaking to a lawyer, please ensure you speak to a company that has history and experience in setting up, advising, investing in and supporting SME's.

Before losing time and money, have them validate your business idea, and then always ensure you have a board of advisors around you every step of the way. Whether you are 16 or 60, most SME's fail without this.

For help on this, please contact me on my email.

The lawyers are the second step, and for this, I agree with MIO law firm.
