Non-renewal of a rental contract because of disagreement and COVID-19
Hi,
I hope everyone is staying safe. My rental contract is up for renewal 16 Apr 2020 and I wanted to know what my rights are in the current economic climate.
I have been negotiating with the landlord since the correct time (90 days) but have so far been unsuccessful in reaching an agreement that both sides are happy with.
Talks are still ongoing and I hope to find a resolution but I want to have a full understanding of what my rights are in the event no agreement can be reached.
If we do not renew, we also don't have the ability to view other homes or move due to coronavirus. Assuming no renewal is agreed by 16 Apr 2020, what happens?
Thanks!

Dear questioner,
I presume that you have served notice of not renewing to your landlord before the 90 days. If you did not reach an agreement, you can advise the landlord that you are not renewing and due to current circumstances, you will not be able to leave the building.
You will leave as soon as life is back to normal. In this case, you will pay rent on the old rate as long as you stay on the unit without the obligation to renew.
