Closing a joint account after husband's death without a will

Hi Ludmilla,

My husband (German) died and we have a joint account. He didn't write a will.

How can I close the account at Dubai Courts?

We have 2 children; a daughter lives in Dubai and a son in Munich. His parents are not alive.

Which documents would I need?

Thanks!

Hello,

Since your husband did not have a will registered before he died, then the process and distribution will be as per Sharia, as a default.

Generally, to close your joint bank account, it depends on whether your signatory powers are jointly or singly.

Usually, the bank account can be closed by the heirs, once the funds have been distributed as per the court's order.

Should you require further tailored substantive legal advice, kindly contact my firm via phone or email.

Regards,

Ludmila
