A clearance letter from a bank to avoid legal issues on traveling

Hello!

I’m currently in the US and a US passport holder. I had $3000 in default which I have already paid.

I’m still waiting for the bank to send the clearance letter, but I’m concerned since I will travel in a month and don’t want to face any issues at immigration.

Is it true that they’ll arrest me and take me to jail upon arrival if I’m not able to show a clearance letter?

I’ve never had legal issues in my life and have already resolved the problem by paying and I’m still waiting for the letter.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Dear Questioner,

You have to receive the letter and a confirmation that the bank has removed all police cases against you, also we can check for you if you have any police cases after you receive the letter to ensure that there are no police cases outstanding.

Some banks' lawyers forget to remove the police case.

As you mentioned that you have paid all remaining amount and nothing remains balance, therefore, the bank will not go to bounce your cheque.

Generally, for nonpayment of the balance amount, banks bounce the cheque, and cheque bounce is a criminal offense in the UAE so they present this to the police to register a criminal case against the signatory of cheque and the Police include that person in the wanted list.

As a result, whenever that person travels, immigration authority stops him and refers to the Police.

Remember payment default is not a criminal act.

You have paid all amount so they will not bounce your cheque and hopefully will not go for a criminal complaint. You don’t need to bother about any problems on arrival.

You may check your criminal status also online by your Emirates ID through the Dubai Police website.
