Precautions while buying a second hand diamond ring

Hi,

I live in Dubai and I want to buy a used diamond ring from someone.

How can I protect myself from any questions later that the ring might be stolen or it was reported to the police?

(The diamond ring has a certificate).

Ask him for the invoice.

In case there's no invoice, ask him to write an acknowledgement that it is his ring and he did not steal it and take his passport copy - Emirates ID copy.

But let say if later on, he reported to the police that I stole the ring from him, do I need write a paper between me and him that I bought it from him and write the certificate number of the diamond and his ID number and mine as well?
