The legal way of recovering the amount of bounced cheque

I got a cheque of AED 220k which bounced. I opened a case with Sharjah police. They contacted the gentleman and his brother told me they detained him this weekend at the police station.

It seems tomorrow a court appeal will happen. I have not been contacted by the police or the person who gave me the bounced cheque.

The proposal according to his brother would be 14 cheques of AED 10k and two cheques of AED 35k (Total 16 months).

If the person leaves the country, will I have issues for the cheques?

If I leave the country to relocate somewhere else, do I have any issue to get my money?

If in the 8months a cheque of AED 10k bounced, what will be the consequences?

Thank you for your kind help.

Dear client,

Thanks for your query,

In the case of criminal cases, the police and prosecution are custodial of the victim. Your presence is not required. You already gave your statement while opening the case.

If a person leaves the country after paying a fine or completing a jail term, you can not do anything.

The criminal law can only give him punishment, as according to law, in cheque bounce cases you can not recover money in a criminal case. But later you can file a civil case to recover the money.

If he relocates to any other country, there is very little possibility of recovering the money.
