I would like to enquire the legal right of a Business Consultancy company when a Business Development Staff conducts introductions outside the office and without the knowledge of the office.

Dear Sir,

Many thanks for your enquiry.

The very nature of the role of business development staff is very much the same as salespeople. Their role is to promote the business through network marketing and to bring in new clients and customers. Conducting introductions is implied in the job.

Nevertheless, where those introductions develop into transactions and the revenue generated from it is paid directly to the staff and not accounted to the company, this is an act of dishonesty under local employment laws.

It is best if your company develops a system of periodic or daily reporting to keep track of staff activities and performance.

Hope the above helps.
