Responding to a police call if you have unpaid debts

Today I've got a call from Dubai Airport Terminal 1 police station.

I've been asked to come to the police station without giving me a reason.

I have an unpaid bank loan but I am not aware of any court case in this regard.

What are my rights in this situation? Should this kind of request from police be in writing?

Can I ignore this telephone call and what are the consequences?

Firstly, you can not ignore the telephone call as in the event you do not show up, the police have the right to issue an All-Points Bulletin against you and you will be banned from travelling and arrested if any police officer pulled you over.

Secondly, you either attend personally or hire a lawyer to attend on your behalf to check the reason why the police called you.

Probably the bank did not file a court case yet as they usually start by cashing the cheque and if it bounces they file a police complaint about dishonouring a cheque.

The case is then referred to the public prosecution and then to the criminal court.

There is a high probability that the police will ask you to deposit your passport, thus, I am advising to contact a lawyer in this matter.

You are more than welcome to send me an email here and discuss further should you need any assistance.
