Q: Are the labour court fees mandatory? Our lawyer filed the case for us in Fujairah and now the court wants us to pay AED 5000. We asked our lawyer to waive the court fees for the case but after 2 weeks, we followed up and the secretary of the lawyer said to us that the court cannot waive the fees. Our co-workers did not pay any fees in Abu Dhabi and Dubai courts where they filed their cases and now most of them received their judgment. Because of this, we are having second thoughts of our lawyer. There has been no progress since we provided our documents and SPA 6 weeks ago. Are court fees really mandatory to be paid? The secretary of the lawyer said to us the case will not push through if we will not pay. The thing is we did not receive 4.5 months of salary and the court fees are much of a burden to add.
