Tips for knowing the authenticity of an offer letter

Hi Anitha,

I am unsure if your advice is free, if not please ignore my request.

I am in South Africa at the moment and applied for a Legal Advisory job. I received an offer from an LLC without an interview, and the offer letter also does not contain the landline number 9714...; instead, it is 9715...

The first offer mail was sent from a Gmail account. I questioned this with the company by sending them a mail to the address on their website being [-----.com] and asked if the offer was legitimate.

I then received a response from this e-mail that they are awaiting my signed offer. How will I know now if the offer is legitimate?

Dear Questioner,

Good afternoon.

Thanks for keeping in touch with me.

As per the new procedure in the UAE labour law, the offer letter from a company is a part of the labour contract itself and no offer letter like before as it doesn't exist.

So if you have received the offer letter issued from the labour ministry, there is no problem in accepting it. Hope the position is clear to you now.

Please feel free to contact me at 0556635526 or WhatsApp me at 0508575526 if you need any further explanation or clarification.

Regards,

Anitha Rajeev

Hi Anitha

Thank you for the prompt response this is highly regarded. Your advice is noted and respected.

One further thing. I read it in the UAE Law that an employer cannot expect the employee they are offering the job to pay the Visa fees, especially to some travel agency.

This is the case with my offer wherein they state that I need to contact a Travel Agency and pay the visa application fees upfront, and as soon as I commence employment I will be reimbursed.

Is this a new process in the UAE labour law or should I regard it as a fraudulent offer?

No employer would ask to deposit the visa charges to a travel agency. It is a fake offer letter.
