Dear Questioner,

Thank you for contacting us.

Pursuant to your query, ECR refers to Emigration Check Required which is meant for workers emigrating to certain countries to protect them from unscrupulous employees.

If you are in the ECR category, then ECR status will be printed on your passport. If you are subject to ECR, then you need an emigration clearance from Protector Of Emigrants (POE) to enter any of the following countries for employment:

• The United Arab Emirates (DUBAI)

• Kuwait

• Indonesia

• Iraq (Emigration is banned)

• The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

• Thailand

• Yemen, etc

If you are visiting the UAE for employment purpose, POE (Protector of Emigrants) has to clear your emigration if the passport is stamped with ECR (Emigration Clearance Required).

This ECR can be permanently removed by POE based on some criteria and re-stamped as ECNR (Emigration Clearance Not Required).

You can get in touch with me on email for further assistance and clarification.

I trust you will find this helpful.

Regards,

Mohammed Beakheet
