Right of the landlord to levy bounced cheque fine from deposit

The landlord is taking 4000 from our final deposit for bounced cheques which happened in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

We lived in this property since 2015 and now when we are finally moving out, he decided to charge us for these fees of 1000 per cheque now in 2019.

Is this possible?

Dear Questioner,

If it is mentioned in the tenancy contract the penalties of AED 1,000 / bounced cheque, yes he is entitled to take this money in case the cheques was bounced.

Regards,

Yes, but these cheques in the tenancy contract are from 2 years ago and not the most recent tenancy contract.

Yes, he is supposed to request the money after the cheques were bounced. But this cannot stop him to request this money anytime.
