Can my employer cancel my labour contract and revoke my labour card without my knowledge?
Hi,
Your employer cannot cancel your labor contract or revoke your labor card without notifying you.
UAE law requires that the employer provide you with a written notice before termination, usually with a notice period of 30 to 90 days. During this period, you are entitled to your full salary, and the contract remains in effect.
Any termination must follow legal grounds such as contract expiry, mutual agreement, employee misconduct, or redundancy.
If the employer terminates the contract unlawfully or without informing you, you have the right to file a complaint with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) and seek compensation.
If your labor contract is canceled or your labor card is revoked without your knowledge and without proper legal procedures, it is considered unlawful, and you can challenge it legally.
An employer cannot terminate an employment contract and withdraw a labor card without your knowledge except in exceptional and legally defined circumstances, such as if the employee is exposed to a serious risk to their health or safety, the employer fails to fulfill their duties after being notified by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, or the employee breaches a specific contract clause.
In most cases, the law requires prior written notice to the employee of a notice period.
