Questions & Answers
My roommate assaulted me and tried to strangle me then she called the police claiming I attacked her. What to do?
I fought with my roommate. She started the fight by banging my head against the wall and strangling my neck.
I was unable to breathe and remove her hands, so in order to save myself, I bit her hand. I was new in the UAE and didn’t know how to call the police.
But she, being well aware of this, called the police, and the police are accusing me that you hit her, saying she had wounds.
But my right eye is under treatment, and I can’t see properly from that eye. My face has all wounds.
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your concern.
Under UAE law, assault cases - especially involving roommates - require proper documentation and medical evidence from both parties.
If you suffered injuries during the incident and acted in self-defense, it’s crucial to present your medical reports and statement to the police.
I recommend scheduling a legal consultation to help protect your rights, clarify your position with the authorities, and ensure all injuries are documented correctly.
Please contact me directly by phone for urgent legal assistance and representation. I am here to guide you through the process and support your case.

This is considered a mutual assault, and you should also file a police report against her.

Thank you for contacting us via Legal Advice Middle East.
Your situation is very sensitive: it involves a physical altercation where you acted to defend yourself, but the other party reported first and presented her injuries.
We have successfully represented clients in very similar cases where self-defense was claimed after being physically attacked.
The authorities often look first at the immediate evidence presented, which is why her complaint is being treated as primary.
There are multiple legal directions to protect yourself.
One option is to file a counter-complaint, supported by medical reports of your injuries, to show that you were the victim and only reacted in self-defense.
Another is to request the court to consider forensic examination and witness statements, which can prove that you did not initiate the assault.
The strongest defense is to establish that your action (biting) was necessary to stop her attack and save yourself from serious harm.
