Ramy Torbey

While managing Aziz Torbey Law Firm, Ramy envisioned and with a few like-minded partners founded the international law firm, Eptalex, as we know it today. In addition to his duties as a managing partner, he also heads our corporate and transactional practice overseeing a sizeable and diverse team. Ramy’s practice encompasses a broad array of corporate tax issues, structured finance transactions, joint ventures and cross-border projects. His business clients are spread across countless industries including oil & gas, construction, building equipment and supplies, energy, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, technology, banking, hospitality, and F&B throughout MENA and Europe. Ramy also creates corporate structures that best suit the individual needs of each client taking taxation, reporting and financial requirements in a multitude of jurisdictions into consideration when carefully crafting one. With more than 15 years’ experience, he has overseen international acquisitions and reorganized the corporate structures of banks, an oil derivatives plant, a cement factory, technology companies, touristic ventures and multiple other enterprises. Financial institutions regularly call on Ramy to navigate complex regulatory and compliance issues and to advise them on their day to day operations. Ramy assisted a large bank in Lebanon in acquiring and recently updating the technology and service providers behind their mobile and card payment technology and in the acquisition of a substantial percentage of its shares. His knowledge from working with credit card companies and payment gateways prove invaluable to these clients. Ramy regularly contributes to journals and magazines on topics like securities, hedge funds, corporate financing, corporate governance, oil & gas, information technology and Alternative Dispute Resolution. He also gives lectures and training on subjects such as business registration and protection, Sharia-compliant projects (Islamic finance), and ADR in Beirut, Geneva and Rome.

- Ramy currently serves as a board member and legal advisor to a number of local and international groups, companies and NGOs. - He served as the Lebanese Legal Expert for a European Commission ADR project in the Middle-East and North Africa, implemented by an international consortium led by the ADR Center in Italy from 2005 until 2008. - He joined the Beirut Bar Association in 2002.
