Summary
Andrew Lyons, a Senior Associate at Davidson & Co, was admitted as a solicitor under the Law Society of Scotland. Since joining in 2011, Andrew has played an integral role in the firm's dispute resolution practice and has been a finalist for the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year, Corporate Counsel Middle East Awards in 2012 and 2014, in association with Legal Week. Andrew's litigation experience has resulted in his high level involvement in many of the leading cases before the Dubai World Tribunal (DWT) which is presided over by former English Court of Appeal Judges Sir Anthony Evans, Sir John Chadwick and Michael Hwang, the Deputy Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts. Andrew has acted as lead lawyer in what the Judges consider was the first successful claim in the courts of Dubai for compensation for financial loss resulting from negligent misstatement under Article 282 of the UAE Civil Code, Andrew currently advises a wide range of construction, real estate and commercial clients in the UAE, Middle East and North Africa region, and conducts high value arbitrations under the auspices of the DIFC LCIA, DIAC and ICC. Andrew has also been recognised for his recent role as part of a working group of Dubai-based legal practitioners engaging to review and provide input in the draft rules governing the DIFC's Wills and Probate Registry (DIFC WPR). The DIFC WPR has since been established under the jurisdiction of the DIFC Courts and heralded by the Governor of the DIFC as being "a first for the MENA region".
